Subject: The Scrub's Point of view-- ECC4! Date: 1999/06/03 Author: SoyChapin Posting History Well... What to say except that this was the true nationals, with over 150 people you can imagine how crowded it got and the temperature inside. lets begin, Day 1: As Victor, Darick, and Me left for ECC4 we were more than eager the get there and show our stuff. We ended up getting there around 9:30 P.M. at the break since there was mad traffic, The first thing I did was look for my fellow GT crew and some Cali people that new. There was no sign of some of the Cali people I knew such as Valle, Ingram, the Cannons... mainly because they were at the city. My First option then was to go straight to the Alpha 3 machine and try to show off with V-Rolento. ^_^ My first couple of matches were not so hot since I had a really hard time getting used to the sticks. There was nothing wrong with the sticks except for the fact that they were new and that they were very stiff, other than that you really had to mash on the buttons in order to make them work. I decided to have my second character do most of the beating people up since I didn't want anyone to get used to my Gief. :o) So I brought my infamous combo with V-Rolento against people and actually did some good, many people never saw it and were getting at least 50% of their life off every match. After having my 5 win streak taken off I decided to let some of the GT do some damage and finally wait to bring out the Big Guy. It was about 2:10 or something and I decided to play Zangief, I got a 10+ win streak and was really getting used to the sticks by then. After getting around the teens in my win streak, all the A3 arcade machines stopped and it was time for the BIG show. ---------------------------------- Street Fighter Alpha 3 ---------------------------------- I really didn't get a chance to watch any matches until the semi-finals after I got eliminated. I really don't remember any of my matches except for my matches with Apoc (who has a hell a good Balrog). My first couple of matches were against some Chun and shotos which I used Zangief for mainly because I have a better chance beating shotos and Chun-lis with Zangief ( I know its a disadvantage). Everything was going smooth until I had to face Apo's Balrog, our first encounter was with his Chun vs. my Gief which I won. He later brought out Balrog which basically mad it really hard for me to get my super. I lost and decided to bring out my V-Rolento, it would of been an advantage for me if I would of got my custom off but he kept a good ground game and limited me from beating him. (arrghh... we got our rematch later on :oP) After being disappointed and going to the losers bracket, I had to make up for my early loss, I later went on winning about 2 matches before I had to fight Tom Cannon which was basically the "Custom War". I picked Gief hopping he would pick V-Akuma but instead he picked V-Dhalsim and since I suck against Sims, it was an early loss. Being afraid of getting eliminated I chose V-Rolento which I think can beat any Sim as long as he gets them in the corner. My first match went pretty even since I didn't get my custom off well and most of the action took place in the midscreen. I later went on and won that match, after loosing Tom was debating whether to pick Sim again or V-Akuma. After he decided he picked V-Dhalsim again (this is were the war began). We started a crazy match again and somehow got him in the corner really quick and get my non-combo (but still hard as hell to get out) on him and took a quick 99% life away and ended it with a knife. H later came back in the second round and got me in the corner with his VC which took about 80% and filled my VC up too 100%! During the time I couldn't decide if I could use my VC or wait ti'll next round, so I said what the heck and tried really hard to get him in the corner and I finally took all his life away with another deadly 90%+ life away... That Later put me in a good spot but a difficult match up ahead. Rob Ingram was my next match and as always I picked Zangief and took on his A-Rolento? (It seems to be that Cali has decided that A-Rolento is the best Rolento) I managed to get past his Rolento and win both rounds. He later retaliated and picked V-Ryu which was a very close match and it was difficult for me to win. At the end I some how got past and even farther where it was my final match. Kei who is the another Gief player made my match too difficult mainly because I never played Gief vs. Gief matches and I think you can't do any of your tricks against the same character. After loosing and pretty satisfied with my place, but not Happy :o(. I saw the finals and saw a little of Valle's Gief which I might add is pretty fuquing good. ------------------- MvC ------------------- What can I say? for some it was the best tourny and for others it was boring. Personally I was really sick and didn't understand why? maybe the fact that I got no sleep because of our night with some of the Cali dudes at the hotel was too fun to go to sleep. I also think that the RC Cola at the break was sorta poisoned . The tournament was pretty fun and I saw some stuff that I liked but really wasn’t impressed (yes... I saw the megaman combo but I see it everyday at GT :oP). I did rather how like some of the Cali MvC players such as SpiderDan and Viscant. After all was done I just said Bye to everyone and hoped to see them again. ------------------- people ------------------ MrWizard: He was WAAAAAAYYYY TOOOOO GOOOOOD!!! hahah, he seemed to be the TommyBoy of the WC. He talked trash for the WC just like I backed up EC. Viscant: The WC Gief of MvC... He seemed the one that got along with everyone the most. He never insulted or said anything bad... except for singing Shahia Twain at the Hotel or something. CaliPower: This Guy has skillz! Don't care what people say... Mad skillz! CaliSean: Pretty cool and friendly guy once you really get to know him. omni_: didn't really talk much to him but I knew who he was at first sight due to some clues some of the #capcom people told me. The Cannons: Too cool... Props on the tournament organization and keeping everything cool... oh yeah... They are Evil! heh, just kiding Apoc: Mad props on that tight Balrog... my bad you didn't get to play HF. Jason Cole: Nice V-Dhalsim, I really wanna get a good match with your Sim and my V-Rolento Bahn: Good luck on that report man. too bad we didn't get a Zangief and chun-li match. ECC4 staff: Good job! you all the tournies done in a weekend, enough said! CT: you guys are really dedicated to MvC, good representing. Thao: Superb A-Charlie, anyone who thinks Charlie sucks has probably not played this guys Charlie Choi: Footsie KING! the best V-Sakura I’ve seen anyone else I forgot can just e-mail me and we can chat or go on #capcom and look for TommyBoy (sometimes TommyKid). So... how does it feel to lose to a scrub?
